A Guide to Playing in Poker Sit and Go Tourneys
These days there are an apparently endless variety of Poker sit and go tourneys, ranging from heads up to multi table with dozens of players. Multi table sit and go in particular are very popular. Before you jump in, you should be aware of the basic tactics you will need.
The first is that multi table sit and go means you will have to modify some of the Poker strategies that you use in single table tourneys. Of course, the very basic fact is that you have to consider your survival first, and that is best done through player reading.
As in other Poker tournaments, the early stages of multi table sit and go are filled with fish, calling stations and loose cannons. So play only when you have the premium hands, and otherwise just sit back and collect the chips that these players will scatter about.
Once you do get the high hands, play it, and make them pay. Also, by making it known that you have a big one, they will chase, all the way to the river. That of course, can only mean good news for you.
A very common mistake in multi table sit and go is that of trying to find out what is happening on the other tables. It is only natural to be curious of course, but it is vital that you focus on your Poker strategy and your table.
The moment that you start comparing your stack with those of the other players on the other tables, you will lose concentration and subsequently the game. Simply focusing on one sit and go game at a time is the key, and before you know it, you will be on the way to the final tables.
Once you do get there, your sit and go strategy will depend a great deal on the size of your chip stack. If you have a small stack, then you should try and be aggressive, because you will need to catch up quickly. On the other hand, if you have the biggest, you should focus your efforts on those with fewer chips. Take them out as quickly as you can.
Being in the middle is more of a judgment call. You have to consider just how big is your difference from the big and small stacks, and also how the other sit and go players are placing their bets.
Multi table sit and go Poker tournaments are known for being fast paced, unpredictable and subject to all sorts of twists and turns. While this can break other Poker players down, by sticking to these tactics you will be able to rise from the table and walk away with the money.
